Where the trail ends... - Trailer

by Freeride Entertainment
Sep 23, 2010 at 13:52

Freeride Entertainment, producers of the New World Disorder series, are pleased to announce the beginnings of a new project taking mountain biking back to the roots of freeriding. Where the trail ends... is the start of a new feature film based on the natural terrain progression of riding in remote international locations. Freeride is excited about their new project which started deep in the Gobi desert in China earlier this year. Featured riders from this first expedition were Darren Berrecloth, Kurt Sorge, and James Doerfling.

Read on,

“Freeride is excited to be embarking on a project that takes freeriding back to its roots. This is where it all started, we are going full circle to what made the sport where it is today. Freeriding these days is too dirt jump focused, it is great to be doing something based around adventure and what the athletes want to be doing. It also puts the adventure and challenge back in filmmaking for us and feels good to be creating something like this.”
Derek Westerlund – Executive Producer

Freeride Entertainment is keeping the lid tight on this one, no one is letting out any details on the next expeditions or which other riders will be joining the adventure. From the looks of the teaser, a feature film on the Gobi alone would be epic, but you can’t help but think of other cool international zones. Stay tuned.

you gonna hate me for that, but for me, real mtb'ing has nothing to do with showing off big stunts, like a backflip. if there is one movie that can catch the real spirit of mtb'ing, wake me up. I'm starting to grow tired of movies showing people wearing women's jeans, flat caps and doing big stunts which did not originate in the mtb sport. /rant_off>

Ha ha I think that this is infact what you are looking for in a film then, no Dirt Jumps here man, only BIG Mountain Freeride! Gonna be amazing!

Oh I'm going to get negatives for this but in the voice-over "show where mountain-biking really comes from" the scene cuts to someone railing a Gobi Desert scree slope. I'm trying to remember when biking started as Super-G type ski turns on a blank scree field? Or perhaps NWD is flashing-back to its Kranked Rossland & Lillooet scree-slope roots? Let's not get carried away guys and think you need to dress up this riding with some kind of homily to soul and your roots and all that bullshit. Let the footage stand for itself as jaw-dropping scenery and exposure and "Big Mountain Freeride" - whatever the hell that is - no disrespect to you brule.

MindPatterns, youre right. However this is i think a movie showing the progress of big mountain riding. That progress includes those big stunts originating from other big mountains sports that we know and love. If you want the core basic movie - watch the Clunkers. That's a doc about how it all stared.

flag StuHaight (Sep 23, 2010 at 14:38)
Leelau you get the basic idea though right? They're taking locations a person like Bender (and many others at the time) would go to, and are adding today's current flavor of riding and technology into a 'anything goes' kind of enviornment.

flag shirk-007 (Sep 23, 2010 at 14:42)
Lee hits the nail on the head. This isn't the roots of mountain biking, it's the roots of Kranked style freeride filming.

That clip actually gets me more excited to ski than it does to ride.

I watched with the sound off, so I have not heard the voice over (I agree though; the voiceover stuff in most of the Collective movies were irritating and distracting).

Of course the root of Freeriding is not bombing steeps and scree in the Gobi Desert. It's the idea (and balls) to do such a thing - to go somewhere and ride things not ridden before, natural lines in unique places. Riders like the FRO riders (just inducted to the MTB Hall of Fame) did this over a decade ago. Those cats had the vision and balls to take riding in a different direction, and in doing so, changed the sport. I see this film as a nod to that era, and those ideals. The popular thing now seems to be slopestyle, tailwhips and flips, and bike parks. Which are all cool things. Which are all covered heavily in most recent video releases. It will be cool to see a video focusing on out of bounds riding...

But I hope they keep the soul bro surfer commentary to a minimum Wink

The roots of mountain biking is going out and finding unique natural lines. Go read Tippie's article. That's what they're getting at and everyone just enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks T. That'd be the one. And here's where the arguement stops. From the man himself.

Finally they do something new ( probably as a answer to the life cycle movie ). I Stopped being interested of the new world disorder series a long time ago, to mutch repetition from movie to movie and no innovation, I think they just got some competition from Stance Films (the people behind life cycles) that made them come up with a new movie with some new imagery.

Competition feeds innovation, creativity and out comes something good. I like this style of movie ten times more then the action packed movie with bad music we have been fed with the last 10 years.

I think it will be awesome!

So many of you guys sound like idiots. It's just a mountain bike film, not a contemporary piece of art juxtaposing the new with the past. If you guys are going to talk like that go find a different website where they need more vaginas. Mountain biking isn't about BIG BALLS, sending it in untouched hazardous locations, or some other third thing. Its just about riding your bike any way and any how you feel like it. I don't know what some of you consider "real mountain biking" but just shut up because I'm sick of reading these comments and getting your bullshit complaining about skinny jeans and dirt jumps or guys that only care about flips. Dirt jumping and freeride make good videos because no one wants an hour of pedaling xc epics. So shut-up and enjoy the damn movies and just ride your bike.

Theres showing some BIG MOUNTAIN knarly lines, when freeriding took off what was it all about big hucks big senders and some crazy lines.
